Why is sustainability important?

Let’s start with a simple question, what is sustainability? In simple words this means accomplishing our needs without compromising nature and future generations. Basically, in this case taking care of nature while making our coffee without compromising nature or the community

At Hacienda Iluminada are focused on sustainability. We understand that to produce the best coffee, we must take care of our planet. This commitment influences every decision we make on our farm, from the cultivation of coffee plants to the harvesting of beans.

Organic Practices

At Hacienda Iluminada we want to make the best possible on organic practices. One of the changes we have made to our pesticides and fertilizers, relying instead on natural compost and pest management. Not only do we do this for the health of our soil but also guarantee that every cup of Hacienda Iluminada coffee is free from harmful chemicals, we don’t use weed killers so it doesn’t affect our nature. We only use ecofriendly-water efficient coffee processing equipment

Helping The Community

Making small changes at Hacienda Iluminda not only does it help us and our coffee but it goes to the beautiful community in Maricao, Puerto Rico. We are helping the amazing Humans who make Hacienda Iluminada what it is. We work on providing good wages with permanent jobs that are paid above the federal minimum wage. We want our farmers to be happy and feel part of Hacineda Iluminada and 787 Coffee. Not only that, but our environmentally friendly practices help Maricao’s nature by making healthy changes that benefit its trees and animals. At our coffee farm, we have different animals that needed a home and now at Hacienda Iluminda, they live freely and happily.
