The Truth About Coffee Plantation With Hacienda Iluminada
We talk so much about coffee but not about its plantation and the truth behind the magical process! There are a lot of beliefs about coffee plantation and about the coffee seed, but what is true and what is not? Well, in this Hacienda Iluminada blog, we’ll talk about some myths and realities about coffee plantation.
Myths About Coffee Plantation!
Coffee Plants Can Only Grow with Direct Sunlight
As humans we mostly assume that plants grow only if direct sun is hitting on them, while this might be true for some plants, coffee plants are different! As we have discussed before coffee paints are delicate and having too direct sunlight could affect them so they are mostly in a balanced climate that protects that plant and even the soil, if a coffee plantation is surrounded by the shade of trees or another type of shade toa void hurting the plant!
Coffee only Grows In Low Altitudes
This can be true for some coffee plants but not for ALL, for example, specialty coffee only grows in high altitudes like the coffee in Hacienda Iluminada! The altitude where coffee is grown has a big impact on the plant and flavor of the coffee. Since Hacienda Iluminada is located 3,000 ft above sea level it is perfect for increasing specialty Arabica beans. It allows for slower bean maturation, resulting in a richer and more nuanced cup of coffee.
Coffee Farming Is Harmful to the Environment
While many other coffee farms don't implement eco-friendly practices which can hurt the environment there are many ways for coffee plants to grow with eco-friendly techniques. For example, at Hacienda Iluminada, we implement eco-friendly farming techniques, such as not using chemicals, water conservation, and no machine use. These practices help preserve biodiversity, take care of the soil, and take care of nature.. Sustainable coffee farming can coexist harmoniously with nature.
ALL Coffee Beans Are the Same
"The magic of coffee is that there are different coffee beans all over the world! They change depending on their origin, variety, and processing method. Each cup of coffee in our coffee shop, 787 Coffee, reflects the essence of Puerto Rico, our farm, and the care we put into every step of the production process.
Coffee Farming Is Done by Machines
At Hacienda Iluminada, we are proud to be eco-friendly and to have amazing humans involved in every step of the coffee production process. While many coffee farms rely on machines for various tasks, certain things never change and still require humans. For example, Planting, harvesting, and sorting the coffee cherries are all important tasks that are done by our dedicated farmers. Our humans ensure that only the ripest cherries are picked, which is crucial for producing high-quality coffee. Additionally, the roasting process is also done by humans. We are committed to producing top-quality coffee, and we believe in the importance of human involvement at every stage – from harvesting to roasting.
