In this hacienda Iluminda blog, we’ll talk about the main difference between organically and conventionally farmed coffee.
What is the difference?
ORGANIC COFFEE
Organically coffee beans are grown without the use of chemicals, pesticides or other chemicals that can hurt the soil! Organic coffee is based on the use of sustainable coffee farming practices, like limiting the use of machinery or anything that can hurt the environment. Organic coffee beans have a more clean and flavorful taste since there is no added chemical being added to the coffee cherries! However, there are different challenges that coe with organic coffee. Organic coffee beans require extra care from farmers daily and need to be handpicked to make sure the taste of the coffee beans is not being affected. Organic coffee beans can take longer to grow and there are not too many of these delicious coffee beans. A hacienda iluminada we use sustainable coffee farming practices, for our single origin coffee beans to make sure we give our caffeinated humans clean and fresh coffee. Yes, this might take longer and it might require more time but the results are AMAZING! Like this we can make sure YOU are having the freshest cup of coffee!
CONVENTIONAL COFFEE
Conventional coffee farming is done at a faster pace! Farmers use fertilizers, pesticides and other types of chemicals to make sure coffee grows faster. Many coffee farms go the conventional route because they need to maximize the production, it is not so much about the quality but about the quantity of coffee beans! However chemicals can affect the soil, causing the quality of coffee beans to be harmed. This also can affect other ecosystems. This doesnt means that all conventional coffee beans use chemicals but these type of famrs dit follow sustainable farming practices or fair trade.
If it’s GOOD for earth, it is GOOD FOR YOU!
In Conclusion…
There is no right or wrong answer for the coffee. you prefer but there are many different elements that differentiate these coffee beans and the impact they make! Organic coffee Beas don’t use extra chemicals but they don’t produce a lot amount of coffee beans and conventional coffee farming allows to have more coffee beans but with the use of chemical!
