Hacienda Iluminada Through adversity

When we opened Hacienda Iluminada, home of 787 coffee in 2014, we were so excited and optimistic, thinking it would be a smooth journey. But little did we know that we would face so many challenges, most of which were beyond our control, like natural disasters. We had to deal with earthquakes, hurricanes, including hurricane Maria and climate changes that affected our precious coffee plantation.

Coffee plants are very delicate and need specific care, soil fertility, and just the right climate. Too much rain can cause fungal diseases and water stress, while dry conditions can put the plants at risk. When these natural disasters hit, they damaged our coffee plantation, leaving us without coffee to send to our beloved coffee shops in San Juan, New York, and Texas.

But even in these tough times, we are had a strong and dedicated team at Hacienda Iluminada that never failed to take care of our coffee farm. they kept pushing for greatness until we could have a helthy coffee plantation again.

Our Amazing Farmers

Our farmers at Hacienda Iluminada didn't let Hurricane Maria's destruction in 2017 stop them. Instead of giving up, they chose to keep going. The hurricane destroyed the whole community of Maricao and the coffee trees, leaving us without coffee. However, our amazing farmers and their commitment to Hacienda Iluminada brought them together against adversity and resurrected our coffee farm. Because of this amazing dedication, we are able to have coffee in every 787 coffee shops and our amazing caffeinated humans vna take a bag home or give it as a gift to their favorite humans

Our farmers at Hacienda Iluminada make the best team. Justin, our amazing farmer, not only takes care of the coffee plantation but also tends to the animals. Angel oversees all the administration of the farm and helps with the care of the coffee plants. Wanda, our amazing roaster, takes care of toasting the coffee properly and many other amazing humans that make our morning coffee possible!
